The Executive Secretary to the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Issifu Seidu Kudus Gbeadese, has addressed allegations made by the Damongo Constituency Secretary of the NPP concerning the delay in commissioning the Broto water project.<\/p>\n
Gbeadese refuted claims that the GWCL Managing Director, Adam Mutawakilu Garlus, has purposefully avoided commissioning the Broto artesian well, a project designed to provide water to parts of Damongo and its surrounding areas. He clarified that the Managing Director has not refused to commission the project.<\/p>\n
Gbeadese also corrected the assertion that the project is being financed through a GH\u00a217,074,113.58 loan from Exim Bank, stating that the Broto water project is fully funded by the Ghana Water Company Limited.<\/p>\n
The Executive Secretary made these clarifications while addressing a press conference in Damongo, responding to accusations that Mr. Mutawakilu is deliberately stalling the project for political reasons. The accusers included Kadiri Abdul-Rahman and other NPP sympathisers.<\/p>\n
Gbeadese, backed by GWCL and the project contractor, Danank Engineering Company, stated that the Broto project is not yet complete and hence cannot be commissioned. He refuted allegations that the project was completed in December 2024, making it clear that the project is still incomplete and not ready for commissioning.<\/p>\n
He also contested the claims that the Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, was instrumental in initiating the project. Gbeadese asserted that the credit should go to Dr. Clifford Braimah, not Abu Jinapor.<\/p>\n
Gbeadese also addressed the capacity of the Broto water system, stating that it can only serve approximately 16% of Damongo\u2019s population. He added that the project was designed for a population of 41,180, with a daily demand of 2,059m\u00b3. However, the well yield is only 324m\u00b3 per day, which is insufficient to serve the entire regional capital.<\/p>\n
On the topic of funding, Gbeadese clarified that as of December 2024, GWCL had paid GH\u00a24 million out of the total GH\u00a217 million project cost. An additional GH\u00a26.2 million, approved by the current MD, is yet to mature.<\/p>\n
The Executive Secretary noted that the Managing Director has directed Danank Engineering and project consultants to increase the capacity of the Broto project by constructing two new boreholes at Soalepe, a suburb of Damongo.<\/p>\n
Gbeadese concluded by reinforcing that this effort is separate from the larger, long-term water project planned by former President John Mahama and the current GWCL MD to address Damongo\u2019s water challenges comprehensively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
