Everton is on the verge of locking down a deal to acquire Fulham’s Dutch right-back, Kenny Tete, on a free transfer.
The club’s manager, David Moyes, has prioritized this position for his summer recruitment as the team faces a void in the right-back role. After declining to renew the contract of 39-year-old Ashley Young and with the playing future of seasoned captain Seamus Coleman hanging in the balance, a solution was needed.
Tete, aged 29, sees his contract at Fulham expire at the end of the month. Fulham had intended to prolong his tenure there, but Tete has emerged as the prime target for Everton. Talks for a three-year contract for the defender, who has represented the Netherlands 14 times, are well underway.
Jake O’Brien, brought in from Lyon as a central defender, has shown his prowess as a right-back since Moyes took charge in January, despite being overlooked by former manager Sean Dyche. Nathan Patterson, the Scottish defender, has also played in this position.
However, Moyes was determined to bring in a player with confirmed Premier League chops, having been associated with veteran players like Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, and Vladimir Coufal from West Ham United, a player previously under Moyes’ management.
Despite these potential recruits, Tete, who previously played for Ajax and Lyon and has been with Fulham for nearly five years, is the preferred choice for Everton.
