The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formed a nine-person committee tasked with planning the Annual National Delegates Conference. This event is scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium from July 18 to 20, 2025.
The committee, led by Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu, is entrusted with ensuring the successful organisation of the Presidential Primaries, which are slated for January 31, 2026. The outcome of these primaries will determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
The committee comprises of individuals including Henry Nana Boakye (Vice Chair), Alhaji Haruna Mohammed (Member/Secretary), Dr. Charles Dwamena (Member), Mr. Divine Otoo Agorhum (Member), Madam Abena Osei Asare, Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Hajia Safia Mohammed, and Salam Mustapha.
This initiative was disclosed in a press release signed by the party’s General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong. The decision to form this committee was made by the Party’s National Council pursuant to Article 13(1)(1) of the NPP Constitution, which empowers the Council to decide the date and venue for the flagbearer elections.
The National Council convened on June 17, 2025, to discuss the party’s rebuilding activities, such as planning the Annual National Delegates Conference. One of the crucial topics to be addressed during this conference is the potential amendments to the party constitution.
The Frank Davies-led Constitution Amendments Committee has already submitted a compilation of amendment proposals from party members and identifiable groups to the General Secretary. This is in accordance with Article 19(b) of the Constitution, which stipulates that these proposals should be circulated to Regional and Constituency Secretariats prior to the Delegates Conference.
The committee presented its report to the National Council, recommending an early date for the Presidential Primaries. This was largely influenced by proposals from party members and extensive stakeholder engagements. After thorough discussions, the National Council adopted the committee’s suggestion regarding the Presidential Primaries, viewing it as the optimal approach to address the current leadership gap in the party’s reorganisation efforts.
Party members, particularly delegates to the conference, are encouraged to review the proposed amendments in preparation for the meeting.
